Till soon, my sweet Nomble

There’s not a single day that goes by that I don’t find a reason to continue this fight against cancer. Friday, this reason became stronger than ever, for I lost Nomble of Malabo APD to leukemia.
Nomble was part of Malabo’s first generation. It was a victorious generation!/The generation of champions! It was a generation that came by when we were still studying and creating new bloodlines, building our name with this breed, and creating a breeding plan that took into consideration not only our victories, but also a guarantee for a long and healthy life for our RR.
Nomble was the child of Beam of Light of Malabo APD – one our more internationally recognized dogs along with Buddah, imported during the first phase of the creation of Malabo APD, and who had a big role in our story.
All of these fact would already be good enough reasons for us to be devastated by his loss… But for me, Nomble was so much more than all the titles (and there were so many of them!) he earned.
Nomble was my dear “cachorrão”/ “big dog”… A giant that had an incredible personality, a docile and sweet nature that didn’t fit him… And he was big! Nomble had all the physical characteristics that a good RR should have, but to me, the loss of that sweet gaze, of that gentle way in which he asked for affection… These are the characteristics that I will never forget, and that I will never stop missing.
Nomble did great at the shows he entered – he won every competition in Brazil, and was a champion in the United States and Argentina. But it was at home that he really did great, being gentle with the puppies, even with the small Chis who always insisted on barking in his ears. Nomble did great in life, and he left us on Thursday.
Now that I am deeply involved with the ARD Foundation – that will fund research for new alternative cures for cancer – the loss of Nomble gives me more motivation to double my efforts, hoping that very soon we will have reasons to celebrate the victories of Eva, daughter of Nomble, rather than to mourn the loss of my loves.
Till soon, my sweet giant. We will continue this fight in your honor.
